Debuting on NBC on September 8, 1966, Star Trek (now referred to as The Original Series or TOS) introduced the world to the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Created by Gene Roddenberry, the series ran until June 3, 1969, fundamentally altering the landscape of science fiction television.
Starring William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, and DeForest Kelley as Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, the series explored complex human themes through a pioneering, secular humanist lens.
